A project is a unique task so the approach to managing the project must be different compared to normal operation. The project is a temporary effort and has a clear start and end date.

There are different differences between projects and the organization's normal daily operations. Characteristics of operations include ongoing tasks and usually, in an ongoing cycle, they do not have an end date because they are very important to the daily functioning of the organization.

Operations are also repeatable and inputs and outputs are expected and routine. There is usually nothing unique about operational tasks.
